Our Story
Matthew, from Weymouth, was diagnosed with a Germinoma In August 2012 when he was only 24 and he sadly passed away in August 2014, aged 26. Donations in his memory were made via his Just Giving page Team Hoskins, which Matthew set up. Matthew and his family were supported by CLIC Sargent, now known as Young Lives vs Cancer.
Matthew's mum, Jennifer stayed in the charity "Home from Home" in Southampton as did Matthew too. His friends and family have been raising money for the charity in his memory ever since, continuing the fundraising that Matthew started. Fundraising in Matthew's name has included his friends Nicola, Jess and Jenny braving the Weymouth Christmas Day Harbour Swim, taking part in Wig Wednesday, Superhero Abseil, Ducks Races in 2018 for a celebration of what would have been Matthew's 30th Birthday. and continued in 2019 and 2022 at the Tom Brown's Pub in Dorchester, run by Matthew's good friend Katy. Matthew's sisters, Rachel and Jacquie have been heavily involved in helping to organise the special days in Matthew's name.
