Our Story
Ellie was born on the 2nd May 2012. She was such a happy and inquisitive baby - she was always the centre of attention. Shortly after Ellie's 2nd birthday we noticed she was struggling to walk. This went on for about 2 weeks and after several trips back and forth to the hospital, a blood test was carried out. This is when we received the devastating news that they could see Leukaemia cells in Ellie's blood.
Ellie battled Acute Lymphoblastic Leukaemia (ALL) for three years, over which time she was frequently in and out of both Manchester Children's Hospital and Alder Hey in Liverpool. Over the 3 years, Ellie relapsed three times. She was due to be the first child in the UK to receive CAR-T Transplant in January 2018 but unfortunately this wasn't to be - she caught an infection, which ultimately took her short life on the 15th December 2017.
Ellie was bubbly, lively and full of energy and never once complained about being poorly. Rachael, our Young Lives vs Cancer social worker, was with Ellie and our family every step of her journey - from late night calls, to playing with Ellie in hospital and everything in between. Thanks to Young Lives vs Cancer we were able to get grants to help with our travel costs and Rachael even managed to organise Ellie receiving the latest iPad which brought her so much comfort over her time in hospital.
Ellie passed away on the 15th December 2017 at 5 years old, after a 3 year battle against Acute Lymphoblastic Leukaemia.
