Bilbo's Journey

Bilbo rang the bell in March 2022 and in October 2023 Bilbo celebrated his 10th birthday. As a family, we wanted to do something to mark a decade of Bilbo. We’ve set up this fund to give back to Young Lives vs Cancer so they can continue to support families like ours.

Our Journey

When you are told the words, “Your child has cancer” the world stops. In October 2018, our 5-year-old son Bilbo was diagnosed with leukaemia. Cancer turns your life upside down, it alienates you from friends and family as they continue their lives but yours becomes filled with hospital visits, chemo, and continuous worry. Bilbo was on treatment for 1233 days.

In addition to his treatment, we drove 6000 miles to and from the hospital.

Young Lives vs Cancer has been there since day one. Meeting Sarah our Young Lives vs Cancer social worker helped us navigate our new world. She listened while I offloaded. Sarah was there throughout the early days of treatment. A friendly face and sounding board. And I am incredibly grateful for her and her support.
