Our Story

“My son, Alex, was diagnosed with Cancer in his brain (a glioblastoma) back in December 2016 when he was aged 12. Sadly, after learning the cancer had come back and was inoperable, he lost his fight December 2017 aged 13 (12 days before he was due to turn 14!).

When it was still known as CLIC, it was the nursing staff based at the children’s hospital, as well as the support from their social staff, who looked after alex from the moment he was diagnosed right up to and beyond his final day (as well as providing support to his siblings and the rest of the family).

When friends of our found out we were fundraising in his memory, they wanted to join in and the team fund page was set up so we could show what we’d raised together, and many have joined the team fund over the last few years. It was a decision of mine, along with my husband and my father, to continue to fundraise for YL vs C so that they can continue to help provide vital support for other children and young people with cancer.”
